I recently drove the Volkswagen Tayron during a media drive in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and it’s clear Volkswagen is aiming straight for the premium 7-seater SUV space with a product that feels properly loaded and upmarket.
Pre-bookings are now live with an amount of ₹51,000, and the Tayron can be reserved across authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide and through Volkswagen’s official digital platforms. Volkswagen has also confirmed that the SUV will be locally assembled in India.
Step inside, and the cabin is where the Tayron really tries to impress. It gets a massive 15-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, AR HUD, and premium comfort features like 12-way electric seats with ventilation, memory and massage, along with 30-colour ambient lighting.
Safety and technology are major talking points too, with nine airbags and Level 2 ADAS featuring 14 driver-assistance functions. Under the hood, the Tayron is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI EA888 evo4 engine producing 204 PS and 320 Nm, paired with a 7-speed DSG and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen claims a 0–100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224 km/h
Volkswagen will offer the Tayron in seven colour options, including Dolphin Grey, Nightshade Blue, Cipressino Green, Grenadilla Black and Oryx White.
My Experience – Nevin Salve
I recently drove the Volkswagen Tayron in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan a mix of open highway stretches and some city driving too. And honestly, the Tayron feels like a proper premium 7-seater the moment you get behind the wheel. The 2.0L four-cylinder petrol with the DSG gearbox feels smooth and well-matched for this car. Performance is strong enough for easy overtakes, and the overall driving experience feels relaxed and confident.
What I liked most is how balanced it feels on the road. The ride comfort is good, handling feels controlled, and the steering is light which makes it super easy to drive even in tighter city sections. Inside, the fit and finish feels solid, there’s plenty of space for passengers, and the Harman Kardon sound system is a big plus.
That said, the third row is where you’ll have to compromise a bit. It’s fine for kids, but adults will definitely feel cramped. Overall though, the Tayron feels like a great family SUV for long trips premium, comfortable, and genuinely enjoyable to drive.
