Audi A2 E-Tron Claims Title of Brand’s Most Efficient EV Ahead of Debut

Audi has revealed new details of the upcoming A2 e-tron, claiming it will become the most efficient production model in the brand’s history. Scheduled to make its global debut in fall 2026, the compact electric hatchback is expected to deliver a preliminary WLTP energy consumption of just 12.8 kWh/100 km in its 190 hp guise equipped with the optional Efficiency Package.

According to Audi, the impressive efficiency figures are the result of advanced aerodynamics, an upgraded electric drivetrain and a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Efficiency takes centre stage

The A2 e-tron follows the philosophy of the original Audi A2, which was known for its lightweight construction and efficiency.

Key highlights include:

  • 190 hp electric motor
  • Preliminary efficiency of 12.8 kWh/100 km
  • 61 kWh LFP battery
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) support

Audi says the model has been engineered to deliver maximum efficiency without compromising everyday usability.

Aerodynamics reduce energy consumption

The A2 e-tron records a drag coefficient of 0.24, making it the most aerodynamic compact Audi to date.

Its streamlined body incorporates several airflow management solutions, including:

  • Active front air intake
  • Air curtains
  • Gap reducers around the wheel arches
  • Optimised roofline and rear profile

New battery and drivetrain

Power comes from a 190-hp, permanently excited synchronous motor paired with a 61-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.

Audi has improved efficiency through:

  • Silicon carbide power electronics
  • Lower-friction transmission oil
  • Optimised motor windings
  • Cell-to-pack battery construction

The company also claims an 89.6 per cent charging efficiency when using a wallbox, thanks to revised thermal management software.

Everyday practicality

The LFP battery supports regular 100 percent charging, offers improved durability and doesn’t require rare earth materials. The A2 e-tron also supports bidirectional charging, allowing owners to power external devices or use the vehicle as a home energy storage system in supported markets.
