BMW Launches Locally Produced i5 Long Wheelbase in India at ₹79.60 Lakh

BMW India has launched the first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB), marking the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan in the country. Built at BMW Group Plant Chennai, the new i5 LWB combines the growing demand for electric mobility with India’s preference for spacious, chauffeur-friendly luxury sedans.

Priced at ₹79.60 lakh (ex-showroom), deliveries begin immediately.

The launch also saw strong early demand, with all 99 units of the exclusive First Edition selling out before the official launch.

Built for the back seat, but still a BMW to drive

The i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length and has a 3,105mm wheelbase, giving it a significantly spacious cabin with a particular focus on rear-seat comfort.

BMW has equipped it with:

  • Rear-axle air suspension for improved ride comfort
  • Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof
  • Four-zone climate control
  • Vegan leather upholstery
  • Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 14.9-inch touchscreen

The First Edition additionally gets exclusive interior detailing and a rear-seat entertainment package.

Up to 669km of electric range

The BMW i5 eDrive35L uses an 81.6kWh battery and produces 268hp and 410Nm of torque. BMW claims a range of up to 669km on the WLTP cycle.

Performance figures include:

  • 0-100 kmph: 6.7 seconds
  • Top speed: 195 km/h
  • DC fast charging: Up to 160kW
  • 10-80% charging: 33 minutes
