Golf GTI Edition 50 Becomes Fastest FWD Car at Nürburgring

Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 has officially become the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

Driven by Volkswagen test and development driver Benjamin Leuchter, the special anniversary model completed the famous 20.8-kilometre circuit in just 7 minutes and 44.523 seconds, defeating the previous record holder, the Honda Civic Type R (FL5) by 0.358 seconds. The Civic clocked 7:44.881 around the track in 2023.

Volkswagen says this now makes the GTI Edition 50 the fastest production front-wheel drive car ever around the Nürburgring.

The optional GTI Performance Package adds:

What About the Golf GTI In India?

In India, the standard Volkswagen Golf GTI has already received a strong response from enthusiasts, with the first batch selling out quickly after launch. However, Volkswagen has not yet confirmed whether the record-breaking GTI Edition 50 will come to India. Given the growing interest in premium performance cars, there is still a possibility of limited CBU units arriving in the future.
