JSW Greentech has announced the first commercial deployment of its AMPSTAR electric trucks, with an order for 100 4×2 55-tonne electric tractor trucks for JSW Cement’s industrial operations at Vijayanagar, Karnataka.

The deployment comes just over a month after the AMPSTAR brand was unveiled. Both the 4×2 and 6×4 tractor-truck variants have also received CMVR certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), clearing them for deployment on Indian roads.
Built for Heavy-Duty Operations
The AMPSTAR 4×2 55T electric tractor truck is designed for demanding industrial haulage, with the following specifications:
- Peak power: 576hp
- Peak torque: 2,600 Nm
- Configuration: 4×2 electric tractor truck
- Gross vehicle weight: 55 tonnes
The fleet will transport clinker and slag along an approximately 330-km corridor between Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijayanagar in Karnataka. The operation is expected to move around 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo every month.
Battery Swapping and Emission Savings
JSW Eco-Mobility will provide the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution and establish four battery-swapping stations along the dedicated logistics corridor. Paradeep Parivahan Limited will serve as the logistics partner.
Over the contract period, the operation is expected to save approximately 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid around 6,250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Manufacturing and Future Plans
The trucks will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s upcoming 90-acre facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant is planned to have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.
AMPSTAR will offer power configurations ranging from 201hp to 670hp, alongside purchase, leasing and BaaS options. The range is also expected to expand to include tippers and fixed-body dumpers.

Final Take
The deployment of 100 electric tractor trucks marks a significant move towards electrifying heavy-duty industrial transport in India. More importantly, the combination of battery swapping, dedicated infrastructure and a committed logistics operation shows how electric trucking could move beyond pilot projects into large-scale commercial use.
