JLR has started local production of the Land Rover Defender 110 at its Pune facility, making India the first market outside Europe to manufacture the SUV. The move is expected to reduce waiting periods and improve availability, while retaining the engineering and durability standards of the globally produced Defender.
The India-made Defender will be offered in the X-Dynamic HSE trim, with a choice of three engines. Prices start at ₹99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on November 15, 2026.
Engine Options and Pricing
The locally manufactured Defender 110 will be available with the following powertrains, all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission:
- 2.0-litre petrol: ₹99 lakh onwards.
- 3.0-litre petrol: ₹1.18 crore onwards.
- 3.0-litre diesel: ₹1.18 crore onwards.
The SUV retains its D7x architecture and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. It can accommodate up to seven occupants, depending on configuration.
More Features as Standard
Local production also brings additional equipment to the standard feature list, with previously optional features worth up to ₹6.5 lakh on the 2.0-litre petrol and up to ₹17 lakh on the 3.0-litre variants.
Key features include:
- Terrain Response 2 and Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control.
- Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics and Wade Sensing.
- Three-zone climate control with rear cooling assistance and Cabin Air Purification Plus.
- 14-way electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats with memory.
- ClearSight Interior Rear-View Mirror and a front centre console refrigerator compartment.
The 3.0-litre variants also receive an Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring by Braking, a Meridian Surround Sound System, a head-up display and 20-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels as standard.

Final Take
The Defender 110’s local production is a significant step for JLR in India, especially as the company says more than 9,000 examples are already on Indian roads and the SUV is its highest-selling model in the country. The addition of more standard equipment, combined with the potential for shorter waiting periods, makes the locally built version a more accessible proposition without changing its core off-road-focused character. Production of global Defender variants, including the Defender 90, 130 and OCTA, will continue at JLR’s facility in Slovakia.
