Ace British carmaker Lotus has unveiled a new hybrid-EV technology called X Hybrid. The system will debut in the upcoming Lotus Eletre X, expanding the Eletre lineup with a powertrain designed to combine EV performance with long-distance capability.
The new setup delivers 938 hp and a combined range of more than 1,200 km (WLTP).
It can also drive up to 350 km in pure electric mode, powered by a 70kWh battery.
Background
The tech first appeared in China as a prototype SUV called Lotus FOR ME, which serves as the platform’s vehicle.
European specifications for the Eletre X will be revealed closer to its official launch in June 2026, with deliveries expected in late 2026.

The company claims the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

With the Eletre X, Lotus is aiming to combine EV driving for everyday use with hybrid capability for long-distance travel.
Electric First, Hybrid When Needed
Lotus says the system is designed to run primarily as an electric vehicle. The hybrid system automatically switches between EV mode, series hybrid mode, and parallel hybrid mode depending on speed and battery level.
A 150kW generator can recharge the battery while driving, helping maintain performance and extended range on long trips.
Is Eletre X Coming to India?
For India, the Lotus Eletre is an ambitious prospect, a high-end offering if it eventually arrives.
Lotus already sells the all-electric Eletre in limited numbers in India, and a hybrid version with a 1,200 km combined range could make the model more practical for buyers.
However, given the brand’s premium positioning and expected pricing, the Eletre X would remain a rare, halo performance SUV rather than a mainstream luxury option.
