McLaren has unveiled the McL 6GT at Monterey Car Week 2026, previewing a new, highly exclusive supercar inspired by Bruce McLaren’s original M6GT. A production version is planned for 2028.
The McL 6GT takes Bruce McLaren’s unfinished road-car dream and reinterprets it for the modern era.
Its design features a low, wide stance, a low nose and a distinctive Kammback rear. The clean bodywork flows from the front to the rear, while the cabin appears to be embedded in the body.
The concept also features McLaren’s Racing Loop motif, inspired by the original M6GT’s taillights. Bruce McLaren’s signature appears in the engine bay, while the Speedy Kiwi logo is incorporated into the fuel filler cap.
The biggest talking point is the return of an authentic manual transmission. McLaren says the McL 6GT is its first manual car since the F1 in 1992.
The focus is firmly on driver involvement, with hydraulic steering, physical controls and a specially designed gearstick. The gearstick also features a three-dimensional Speedy Kiwi.
The McL 6GT uses a full carbon-fibre monocoque and carbon-fibre bodywork, continuing McLaren’s lightweight philosophy.
Exposed carbon fibre is also used inside the cabin, while the interior combines modern digital instrumentation with details inspired by the original M6GT.
The McL 6GT is more than a styling exercise. McLaren says a production version will arrive in 2028, creating a new category of exclusive supercar positioned beyond its core portfolio.

The McL 6GT takes McLaren back to the basics: a V8, rear-wheel drive, carbon fibre and a manual gearbox. With Bruce McLaren’s M6GT inspiring, the production version could become one of the brand’s most distinctive modern supercars.
