MG Launches New ADAPT Platform That Supports Four Different Powertrains

JSW MG Motors India launches the new ADAPT platform that can operate four different powertrains. Instead of building different platforms for EV’s, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids, the carmaker can build all of them using one flexible base.

Supported Powertrains

The new platform supports multiple new-energy powertrains on the same architecture. Some of them include:

• EV: Runs solely on battery
• HEV: Battery and combustion engine work together
• PHEV: Runs on both the engine and the battery, which requires external charging
• REEV: REEV stands for Range Extended Electric Vehicle. The wheels are powered by an electric motor while the battery is charged by a small combustion engine that acts like the motor.

New Driving Modes Introduced

The upcoming MG PHEV that is based on this platform and it will automatically choose the most efficient driving mode:

• Pure Electric: operates only on battery
• Series Hybrid: the engine will generate electricity
• Parallel Hybrid: engine and motor operate together
• Engine Direct Drive: for efficient highway driving
