Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper Unveiled, Brings Sleeper and Seater Comfort in One Coach

Volvo Buses India has expanded its premium coach lineup with the launch of the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper at PRAWAAS 5.0 in Gandhinagar. Designed for both short and long-distance travel, the new coach combines seating and sleeper configurations, giving operators more flexibility while offering passengers a more comfortable travel experience.

Designed for Long Journeys

The new 15-metre coach is built around passenger comfort and can accommodate 51 passengers.

It features:

  • 21 upper-deck sleeper berths
  • 3 rear sleeper berths
  • 27 premium lower-deck seats with calf support
  • 6 cubic metres of luggage space
  • Integrated kitchenette
  • Onboard toilet

Volvo says the coach has been designed to offer a quieter cabin, improved mood lighting, mobile charging points and enhanced privacy for passengers.

Powered by Volvo’s Diesel Engine

The 9600 Seater-Sleeper is powered by Volvo’s VEDX8 diesel engine, paired with the company’s I-Shift automated transmission. The setup is aimed at improving fuel efficiency while making long-distance operations easier for fleet operators.

Safety Receives Priority

Volvo has equipped the new coach with several advanced safety and driver assistance systems.

Key highlights include:

  • 360-degree camera system
  • Electronic mirrors (Camera Monitor System)
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Driver State Monitoring System
  • Alcohol Interlock System
  • Connected telematics with real-time vehicle monitoring

The telematics system allows operators to monitor vehicle location, speed, fuel consumption, and overall fleet performance.

Final Take

The new Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper isn’t just about adding sleeper berths to an existing coach. It offers operators the flexibility of carrying both seated and sleeper passengers while packing in a long list of safety and comfort features. As premium intercity travel continues to grow in India, this could become an attractive option for fleet operators looking to stand out.
