The next-generation BMW 3 Series with internal combustion engines has entered the final phase of development, with prototypes undergoing intensive testing at BMW’s Miramas proving grounds in southern France.
The new range will feature four- and six-cylinder engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology, alongside Neue Klasse design and BMW’s latest digital architecture. The range-topping M350 xDrive will produce 443 hp and introduce a new Drift Moment function in 2027.
BMW is focusing on handling, transverse dynamics, and ride comfort during the final testing programme. The prototypes have already been tested at BMW’s winter facility in Arjeplog and on the Nurburgring.
Chassis updates include:
The new 3 Series adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse design language, featuring a fresh interpretation of the signature four-eyed front end, short overhangs and a modern 2.5-box sedan profile.
The cabin gets BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X, bringing the brand’s latest display and control interface to the sedan.
The M350 xDrive will be the range-topping ICE variant and the only version announced with a six-cylinder engine.
The M350 xDrive will introduce BMW’s Drift Moment, which sends the engine’s drive entirely to the rear wheels when activated through the central display.
The feature will arrive in 2027 and will also be enabled in eligible cars already delivered through a Remote Software Upgrade. BMW says it is designed to provide a more direct rear-wheel-drive experience with DSC switched off.
The next BMW 3 Series combines the brand’s new Neue Klasse technology and design with familiar four- and six-cylinder powertrains. The M350 xDrive adds serious performance to the lineup, while the Drift Moment gives BMW’s new sports sedan an even more playful character.
