Haas has dropped Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, replacing him with reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa following a reported disagreement within the team.

The decision was announced on Saturday, just a day after Ocon completed FP2. Haas confirmed that the move was not related to the driver’s health but did not provide any further explanation.
What Led to Ocon’s Replacement?
Tensions reportedly began during Friday’s practice session when Ocon disagreed with race engineer Laura Muller over tyre selection during a race simulation.
- Haas wanted Ocon to switch from soft to medium tyres for the high-fuel run.
- Ocon insisted on continuing with soft tyres.
- He later reminded the team that it was his turn to have priority over tyre selection.
Ocon denied any physical violence, confirming that a disagreement had taken place. Haas has not commented further on the incident.

What Next for Ocon?
Haas had already announced that Ocon would leave the team at the end of 2026, with Formula 2 driver Rafael Camara set to replace him next season.
Ocon’s season has also been difficult, with teammate Oliver Bearman generally delivering stronger results.
Hirakawa qualified 19th in Mexico. Haas is yet to confirm its driver line-up for the remaining races if Ocon does not return. Reserve driver Jack Doohan and incoming driver Camara are also possible options.
