Mercedes-AMG’s Updated GLC 53: Now with Six Cylinders and a Drift mode

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GLC 53 4MATIC +, updating its midsize performance SUV with a six-cylinder powertrain and new chassis technology. The model replaces the previous GLC 43 in the AMG lineup, signalling a shift back to using higher-capacity engines in this segment.

Engine Figures

The car comes with an inline-six engine that generates a combined power figure of about 449 horsepower and 600 nm of torque, with a short overboost function that temporarily raises torque further if pushed harder. Assisting the power delivery is a nine-speed automatic transmission with AMG’s variable all-wheel-drive system.

Driving Modes

The media report states that under launch control mode, the new GLC can reach 0-100 in over four seconds. The performance package will also debut an optional drift mode, allowing the drivers to send power primarily to the rear wheels for some sideways fun – a feature not previously offered on the AMG GLC.

Driving Dynamics

To improve cornering stability and steering response, the SUV receives AMG-specific dampers, active roll stabilization, rear axle steering and larger brakes. The company says these updates will also help maintain everyday usability.

Interior and Exterior

On the design front, the new model features AMG-specific front and rear styling, larger air intakes, quad exhaust outlets, and large-diameter wheels. The interior features AMG performance seats, a sport steering wheel, and AMG-specific display graphics integrated into the infotainment and instrument systems.

Pricing and Availability

The advanced rollout of the New GLC 53 AMG is in response to the rising competition in the luxury performance SUV segment, where several rivals now offer high-output hybrid models. The company has not yet announced pricing or the official launch date, but dealers are expected to receive the SUV later this year.
