TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric scooter line up with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1, introducing a more affordable entry point into its EV portfolio.
Alongside the new scooter, the company has also introduced a Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) ownership model across its electric range.
With BaaS, the TVS Orbiter V1 starts at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom).
Customers who prefer full ownership can purchase the scooter without BaaS for ₹84,500 (ex-showroom).
The new model joins the Orbiter lineup alongside Orbiter V2, which features a larger battery pack.
Battery, Range and Charging
The TVS Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery pack designed primarily for daily city commuting.
Key performance figures include:
- IDC range: 86 km
- Charging time: 0-80% in about 2 hours and 20 minutes
- Ride modes: Eco and Power
- Regenerative braking
The setup is aimed at short urban trips, making the scooter suitable for everyday commuting.
Design and Practicality
TVS has focused heavily on practicality with the Orbiter V1
The scooter features an 845 mm long flat seat for rider and pillion comfort, along with a 290 mm flat footboard with generous legroom.
A wide handlebar and upright riding posture are intended to make city riding more comfortable
Practicality is further enhanced by 34 litres of under-seat-storage, which TVS claims can accommodate two helmets.
Other design highlights include a front LED headlamp with visor and a colour LCD instrument cluster
Connected Features and Technology
The Orbiter V1 comes with several connected features through its mobile app.
Highlights include:
- Crash and fall alerts
- Anti-theft alerts
- Geo-fencing and time-fencing
- Remote battery and vehicle status monitoring
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- Call and SMS alerts on the display
- Hill Hold Assist
- Cruise Control
- Parking Assist
- Over-the-air (OTA) updates
Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS)
With the introduction of BaaS, TVS is separating the battery cost from the vehicle price.
Customers can now buy the scooter at a lower upfront cost and subscribe to battery usage instead of purchasing the battery outright.
Key highlights of the BaaS model include:
- Starting price: ₹49,999
- Subscription plans starting at ₹862 per month
- Battery warranty up to 5 years / 70,000
- Unlimited monthly usage during the subscription tenure
TVS says the model provides a clearer understanding of EV ownership while lowering the entry barrier for buyers.
Expanding TVS’s EV Portfolio
According to Gaurav Gupta, President, India 2W Business at TVS Motor Company, the Orbiter V1 is strengthening the brand’s EV line-up by introducing a more accessible scooter.
The company also believes flexible ownership models like BaaS will help accelerate EV adoption in India.
TVS launched the Orbiter V2 last year, and customer feedback from that model played a role in expanding the range with the new V1 variant.
