Kia India has revealed specifications of the upcoming Carnival strong hybrid, which is expected to launch in India in the coming weeks. The new hybrid version will be sold alongside the existing diesel-powered Carnival.

Hybrid powertrain details

The Carnival hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine, the same unit used in the recently launched Kia Sorento Hybrid.

  • Engine power: 180hp
  • Engine torque: 265Nm
  • Electric motor power: 73.4hp
  • Electric motor torque: 304Nm

The electric motor produces 8.4hp and 40Nm more than the motor used in the Sorento Hybrid.

Kia has not revealed complete powertrain details yet, though the Carnival Hybrid is expected to use a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Existing diesel powertrain

The current Kia Carnival continues with a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

  • Power: 190hp
  • Torque: 441Nm
  • Transmission: 8-speed torque-converter automatic
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive

Features remain unchanged

Based on available information, the hybrid version will retain the same exterior, interior, and feature list as the diesel Carnival.

  • Three-zone climate control
  • 12-speaker Bose sound system
  • Powered, ventilated and heated front seats
  • Eight airbags
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • 360-degree camera
  • Disc brakes at both ends

The existing Carnival is currently sold in a single Limousine Plus variant, priced at Rs 59.65 lakh (ex-showroom).

Final take

The upcoming Kia Carnival Hybrid will combine a 180hp 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 73.4hp electric motor producing 304Nm. While Kia has yet to announce its launch date, price, or complete powertrain specifications, the hybrid MPV is expected to arrive in India in the coming weeks.
