Bugatti Unveils One-Off W16 Mistral ‘Le Retour du Jeune Prince’

Bugatti has revealed a unique, one-off version of its Bugatti W16 Mistral roadster through the brand’s exclusive Sur Mesure personalisation program. Called ‘Le Retour du Jeune Prince’ (The Return of the Young Prince), the bespoke creation draws inspiration from a literary work written by its owner, A.G. Roemmers and transforms the already exclusive W16 Mistral into a deeply personal automotive artwork.

Inspired by Literature and Moonlight

The project began in 2023 when Bugatti’s Sur Mesure team worked closely with the customer to develop a unique theme centred around the moon, stars and imagination.

The owner drew inspiration from his own book, Le Retour du Jeune Prince, itself a continuation of The Little Prince. This theme ultimately shaped both the car’s exterior and interior design.

Bespoke Exterior Design

The one-off W16 Mistral features a unique paint finish combining:

  • Copper tones
  • Bronze hues
  • Highly metallic accents

Bugatti designed the colour to evoke the glow of moonlight while maintaining a warm, earthy appearance. The exterior also features hand-painted silver stars across the rear bodywork and wing, while the iconic horseshoe grille receives gold detailing around the Bugatti emblem. Copper-finished brake calipers and matching wheel centre caps further enhance the bespoke look.

A particularly special touch appears when the rear air brake deploys, revealing artwork inspired by one of the most famous scenes from The Little Prince.

A Cabin Filled with Storytelling

Inside, the W16 Mistral continues the celestial theme with:

  • Terre d’Or and Driftwood leather upholstery
  • Moon-themed embroidered door panels
  • Star-pattern stitching on the headrests
  • Custom carbon-fibre trim with constellation details

Perhaps the most striking feature is the silver rose housed within the gear selector. Created using a 3D scan of a real flower, it serves as a direct reference to the rose featured in The Little Prince and stands as a showcase of Bugatti’s craftsmanship.

Final Take

The Bugatti W16 Mistral is already one of the most exclusive hypercars ever built, but the ‘Le Retour du Jeune Prince’ takes personalisation to another level. Rather than focusing solely on performance or luxury, Bugatti has created a car that tells a story, blending literature, art and automotive craftsmanship into a truly one-of-one masterpiece.
