Jaguar’s Controversial New Electric GT Will Be Called the Type 01

Jaguar has officially confirmed that its radical new electric grand tourer will be called the Jaguar Type 01. And honestly, this might become one of the most talked-about Jaguars in years.

The car marks the beginning of Jaguar’s completely new direction, one that moves the brand away from traditional luxury sedans and SUVs into ultra-premium electric performance cars.

Why the Name Matters

Jaguar says the “Type” name is inspired by its historic models, while:

• “0” represents zero emissions
• “1” represents the first car of Jaguar’s new generation

The company had reportedly considered other names like GT and X900 before finally choosing Type 01.

A Huge Electric GT

The new Jaguar is expected to be a large four-door electric GT measuring around 5.2 metres long, and it will sit on Jaguar’s brand-new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform.

Nearly 1,000 HP

Jaguar is aiming for serious performance.

The Type 01 will get:

• Three electric motors
• 120kWh battery pack
• 850V electrical system

Combined output to be around:

• 986 hp
• 1,300 Nm torque

Jaguar claims:

• 0-100 km/h in just over 3 seconds
• Up to 700 km range

The EV will also support 350kW fast charging, allowing roughly 320 km of range in under 15 minutes.

No Petrol or Hybrid Version

Jaguar has also confirmed that the Type 01 will remain fully electric, and there are currently no plans for hybrid or petrol versions.

Luxury Pricing

Jaguar says prices will start from around $ 162,000 (₹1,54,97,835) with higher-spec customised versions expected to cost much more.

The company is also planning:
