Porsche Will Stop Making the Petrol Macan by Mid-2026

Porsche has confirmed that production of the petrol-powered Porsche Macan will officially end by Mid-2026.

Porsche says it will continue selling the remaining petrol Macan stock in some markets through 2027, although the company has not confirmed how many units it plans to allocate for India.

End of an Important Porsche SUV

The Macan has been one of Porsche’s most successful models globally.

In fact, Porsche sold 10,130 Macans in Q1 2026 alone, which was actually higher than the same period last year. The SUV first arrived in India back in 2014 and later received updates in 2019 and 2021.

Electric Macan Will Continue

Even though the petrol Macan is going away, the Macan Electric will remain on sale as Porsche continues its push toward electrification.

A New Petrol Porsche SUV Is Coming

Interestingly, Porsche is not fully abandoning combustion SUVs. A new SUV internally known as M1, which is expected to arrive in 2028, is already under development.

Shared with Audi Q5

The upcoming Porsche SUV will reportedly share its platform with the new Audi Q5, using the Volkswagen Group’s premium platform combustion (PPC) architecture

This move will help Porsche reduce development costs.

A Big Change for Porsche

One interesting detail is that Porsche is expected to give the new SUV a front-biased all-wheel-drive setup, sending most of the power to the front wheels unless the system detects extra traction is needed

That is a major shift for Porsche because the brand has traditionally engineered its cars to feel primarily rear-driven for decades.

Possible Engine Options

Reports suggest the new SUV could use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine similar to the Audi Q5.

Porsche is also expected to introduce higher-performance versions later, including:

  • S
  • GTS
  • Turbo variants

For India

The Macan has remained one of Porsche India’s most popular SUVs thanks to its balance of luxury, performance, and everyday usability. With the petrol version ending soon, Indian buyers looking for an ICE Macan may only have a limited window left before Porsche fully shifts focus toward the electric Macan and its future successor.
