Mahindra Moves Closer to Building its Largest Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur

Mahindra & Mahindra is moving closer to developing its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in India.

The company is progressing towards taking possession of the first 800 acres at Additional Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The greenfield facility, announced earlier this year, will eventually span 1,500 acres in Vidarbha

Once fully operational, the plant will have an annual production capacity of more than 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s biggest integrated manufacturing facility in the country.

A major expansion in Vidarbha

The Nagpur facility will be supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. The park will supply components to the upcoming plant while also serving Mahindra’s existing facilities in Chakan and Nashik.

The project is expected to strengthen Mahindra’s manufacturing footprint as the company expands its automobile and tractor businesses.

Focus on people and skills

Mahindra says it is also preparing the workforce required for the new facility.

The company plans to identify and develop talent for manufacturing vehicles and tractors across different powertrains and future technologies. Over the next two to three years, associates from Mahindra’s existing manufacturing operations will have the opportunity to participate in the selection process for roles at the Nagpur plant.

Mahindra also plans to establish a skilling centre in Nagpur, focusing on areas such as:

• Mechanical operations
• Welding
• Painting
• Other manufacturing skills
