OHM Global Mobility adds 130 electric buses to Chennai’s public transport network

OHM Global Mobility has expanded its electric bus operations in Chennai with the launch of 130 new air-conditioned electric buses.

The buses have been introduced under Phase 2 of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (MTC) electric bus programme. They represent the first batch of a larger deployment, under which OHM will supply and operate 500 electric buses in the city.

Building on Phase 1

The latest expansion follows OHM’s existing electric bus operations in Chennai.

According to the company, its Phase 1 fleet has collectively covered more than 3 crore green kilometres, while its depots have maintained over 99 per cent schedule adherence.

The company says this experience has demonstrated the ability of electric buses to operate reliably at scale in Chennai’s public transport network.

Switch-built buses for Chennai

The 500 buses planned under Phase 2 will be manufactured by Switch, Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle subsidiary.

The newly launched 130 buses will help expand Chennai’s electric public transport network, offering commuters a quieter and more comfortable travel experience.

OHM will be responsible for operating the fleet while also supporting maintenance and other aspects of the electric mobility ecosystem.

With the Phase 2 deployment now underway, OHM will continue expanding its electric bus operations in Chennai as part of the city’s transition towards cleaner public transportation.
