The MG Hector Tomahawk brings a completely new design and an all-electric powertrain to the Hector nameplate. We drove it in Kochi to see how it performs, with the Tomahawk combining a spacious cabin, extensive technology and a claimed range of 457 km.
It uses a 69.2 kWh battery and a motor, producing around 200 hp and 310 Nm. MG claims a 0-100 km/h time of 8.4 seconds, while charging is supported at up to 90 kW.
A Fresh Design
The Tomahawk shares little visually with the previous Hector. It gets a black front panel, illuminated MG logo and distinctive DRLs, along with a flat roofline and a prominent rear spoiler.
The SUV also gets a 419-litre boot, while the 60:40 split-folding second row allows additional luggage space.
The design does, however, share some similarities with several newer Chinese SUVs, particularly in its overall proportions.
Feature-Heavy Interior
The cabin gets a more premium finish, with a beige-and-black colour combination and brushed aluminium detailing. The dashboard is dominated by an 8.8-inch instrument display and 15.6-inch touchscreen running MG’s iSmart 3.0 system.

The rear seats offer generous headroom and legroom, with the raised seating position also improving outward visibility.
Comfort-Focused Drive
The Tomahawk’s electric powertrain delivers smooth acceleration, while the steering feels light but reasonably communicative. Its suspension is tuned more towards comfort, and the cabin remains quiet even over rougher surfaces.
The regenerative braking level can be adjusted through the touchscreen, although physical controls or paddles would have made this easier to access while driving.
Technology and V2H
The SUV gets several cabin modes, including Quiet, Energising, Pet, Camp, Nap and Valet modes, which alter different vehicle functions.
Its ADAS system also worked effectively during the drive, with lane-keeping assistance and forward-distance warnings responding without being overly intrusive.
The Tomahawk additionally supports Vehicle-to-Home, allowing its battery to supply electricity to a house during a power cut.

Verdict
The MG Hector Tomahawk brings a significant change to the Hector formula, with an electric powertrain, fresh styling and a technology-heavy cabin. Its comfort, space and features stand out, while the screen-dependent controls and some design similarities may take getting used to.
