Toyota Fortuner & Legender Mild-Hybrids Launched – Prices, Features, and Details

Toyota has launched the mild-hybrid versions of the Fortuner and Fortuner Legender in India. This is the first time a mild-hybrid system has been introduced in the full-size SUV segment. With this upgrade, both models promise better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and a smoother driving experience without compromising on power.

Bookings for these mild-hybrid variants are now open, and deliveries are set to begin from the third week of June. These models retain the same 2.8-litre diesel engine but now come paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup includes a compact battery and an electric motor, offering a short boost of 16 PS and 65 Nm of torque. While the overall power figure remains 204 PS, the hybrid tech improves responsiveness, enhances fuel economy, and allows for idle start/stop. Additionally, energy lost during deceleration is recovered via regenerative braking, which helps recharge the battery for further efficiency.

The mild-hybrid Fortuner and Legender are priced as follows:

Visually, the only difference in these new variants is the addition of a ‘Neo Drive’ badge on the body. There are no other exterior design changes. However, a few new features have been added. Both SUVs now come equipped with a 360 -degree camera system and a multi-terrain select system. The Fortuner mild-hybrid also gets a wireless phone charger, although both of these are available as dealership-level fitments.

Inside the cabin, the SUVs continue to offer a rich feature list, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, powered front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, cruise control, ambient lighting, and an auto-dimming IRVM. An 11 -speaker JBL sound system and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate further enhance the premium feel. There’s also a multi-information display in the instrument cluster. One noticeable omission in the hybrid variants is the ventilated front seats, it might be, due to the new battery’s placement beneath them.

In terms of safety, both the Fortuner and Legender mild-hybrids come well-equipped with seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist, a rear parking camera, and front and rear parking sensors.

These mild-hybrid variants continue to compete with rivals like the MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, and the upcoming MG Majestor. With improved efficiency and added tech, Toyota aims to make the Fortuner and Legender even more appealing to premium SUV buyers.
