Yamaha has unveiled the YZF-R2 in India, marking the global debut of its new 200cc supersport motorcycle. Priced from ₹2.30 lakh, the R2 is positioned as a lighter and more accessible addition to the brand’s R-series range.

The YZF-R2 is offered in three variants and five colours, with Yamaha focusing on lightweight handling, everyday usability and performance. It will be available through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships from mid-September 2026.
204cc Engine With 26hp
The R2 is powered by a newly developed 204cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 26hp and 19.1 Nm.

The engine uses a DOHC four-valve setup with a DLC-coated finger-follower rocker arm system, a technology derived from the R1. Yamaha claims the setup helps reduce friction and weight while allowing the engine to rev freely.
A 5-speed gearbox is paired with an Assist & Slipper Clutch, while the second and third variants also get Yamaha’s bi-directional quickshifter.
149kg Kerb Weight
Built around a new high-tensile steel tube diamond frame, the YZF-R2 weighs just 149kg, making it the lightest motorcycle in its segment according to Yamaha.
The chassis gets:
- 37mm USD front forks
- Rear monoshock
- 17-inch wheels
- Dual-channel ABS
- Traction Control System
- Three Yamaha Ride Control modes – Street, Sport and Rain
The range-topping R2M additionally gets adjustable front forks, rear shock, clutch lever and brake lever.
R-Series Styling and Three Variants
The design follows Yamaha’s latest R-series theme, with a compact LED headlight, aerodynamic fairing and an R1-inspired rear LED tail-lamp.
The variants are:
- YZF-R2 – from ₹2.30 lakh
- YZF-R2 – with bi-directional quickshifter
- YZF-R2M – range-topping version with additional equipment
The R2 also gets a 5-inch TFT display, while the R2M adds a Smart Key system.
