YANGWANG U9 Track Edition Sets New Global EV Speed Record

YANGWANG, the luxury sub-brand of BYD, has set a new world record for electric vehicle (EV) top speed. On August 8, 2025, the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition supercar reached 472.41 km/h at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany, making it the fastest EV in the world.

Record-Breaking Technology

The U9 Track Edition uses the same e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X body control system as the regular U9 sold in China. It features the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform and a special thermal management system for extreme conditions. Each of its four motors delivers 555 kW, for a total system output of over 3,000 PS (about 2,958 hp). This gives the car a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne—one of the highest in the world.

Advanced Control and Safety

The e⁴ Platform’s quad-motor system can adjust torque to each wheel more than 100 times per second, keeping the car stable and in control even at very high speeds. The DiSus-X system adjusts the suspension at each corner instantly, reducing body roll and keeping the tyres firmly on the road for maximum grip and safety.

Aerodynamics and Tires

The U9 Track Edition keeps the aerodynamic design of the standard U9 and adds an optional carbon-fiber front splitter for better stability at high speeds. YANGWANG worked with Giti Tire to develop special semi-slick tyres for the car, using new materials and tread designs to handle the extreme speeds and forces. A special treatment at the wheel rim helps prevent tyre slippage during hard acceleration and braking.

The Record Run

German professional driver Marc Basseng, who also set the previous EV speed record in 2024, drove the U9 Track Edition to its new record. He said he was amazed to break his own record so soon, thanks to the new technologies in the car.

A New Era for Electric Supercars

With this achievement, YANGWANG shows that electric supercars can deliver not just sustainability, but also world-class performance, safety, and driving excitement—pushing the limits of what EVs can do.
