Honda has launched the new Honda NX500 E-Clutch in India at a price of ₹7.44 lakh (ex-showroom). The biggest highlight is Honda’s new E-Clutch technology, which allows riders to shift gears without manually using the clutch lever.

What Is Honda’s E-Clutch?

The system automatically operates the clutch during:

  • Gear shifts
  • Starting from a stop
  • Coming to a halt

Riders still need to use the gear pedal manually, but there is no need to pull the clutch lever every time. Interestingly, the bike still comes with a normal clutch lever, so riders can take full manual control whenever they want.

Power and Dynamics

Apart from the new E-Clutch system, the rest of the NX500 remains unchanged.

Power comes from the same 471 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 47 hp and 43 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The E-Clutch setup adds only 3 kg, bringing the total weight to 199 kg.

Built for Simple Touring

Unlike many modern adventure bikes loaded with electronics, the NX500 keeps things relatively simple.

Features include:

  • 5-inch TFT display
  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Switchable traction control
  • USD front forks
  • 19-inch front wheel
  • 17-inch rear wheel

However, there are:

  • No riding modes
  • No complicated electronics
  • No ride-by-wire throttle

which may actually appeal to riders looking for a simpler touring machine.

Expensive, But Different

The E-Clutch version costs ₹1.11 lakh more than the regular NX500 with a standard clutch. That definitely makes it expensive for what it offers, especially in a competitive adventure bike market.

Its rivals include:

  • BMW F 450 GS – ₹4.70 lakh (ex-showroom)
  • Benelli TRK 502 – ₹6.20 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Honda NX500 E-Clutch is clearly aimed at riders who want an easy, stress-free riding experience, especially in traffic and on touring rides. It may not be the most value-for-money option, but Honda’s reputation for reliability and the unique E-Clutch technology could help it find a niche audience in India.
