Ducati has expanded its off-road lineup with the launch of the new Desmo250 MX, a motorcycle that aims to redefine the 250cc motocross segment with technology borrowed directly from the company’s racing programmes.
Arriving a year after the Desmo450 MX, the new machine becomes Ducati’s second modern motocross motorcycle and continues the brand’s push into competitive off-road racing.
At the heart of the Desmo250 MX is a new 249 cc single-cylinder engine featuring Ducati’s signature desmodromic valve system.
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the engine.
Ducati claims the Desmo250 MX can rev all the way to 15,000rpm, making it one of the highest-revving engines in the category.
Engine specifications:
The company says the engine has been developed using lessons learned from the Panigale V4 R, with a strong focus on delivering usable torque throughout the rev range.
The Desmo250 MX shares its basic architecture with the larger Desmo450 MX.
Chassis highlights:
Ducati says the chassis has been tuned to offer greater confidence during braking and cornering, where a 250cc motocross bike spends most of its time.
Electronics are becoming increasingly important in motocross, and Ducati is bringing some serious technology to the segment.
Electronic features include:
The Ducati Traction Control system uses a patented strategy that monitors rear-wheel slip and adjusts power delivery accordingly.
One of the most unique features is Ducati’s Predictive Maintenance system.
Using data collected from the motorcycle, an algorithm calculates engine stress levels and adjusts service intervals based on actual usage.
Maintenance schedule:
The information can be accessed through Ducati’s X-Link app.
The Desmo250 MX will arrive at selected European dealerships from July 2026.
Ducati says availability for India and other global markets will be announced at a later date.

The Desmo250 MX shows Ducati is serious about becoming a major player in motocross. A 15,000rpm desmodromic engine, advanced traction control and predictive maintenance technology make it one of the most technically ambitious motorcycles in the class. If the Desmo450 MX was Ducati’s entry into motocross, the Desmo250 MX looks like the bike that could truly shake up the segment.
