MG has entered India’s premium MPV segment with the M9 EV, the first model under its new MG Select retail channel.

While the vehicle first debuted in China in 2021, it now arrives in India with a clear focus: delivering a chauffeur-driven luxury experience.
Big Presence, Clean Design
The M9 is enormous, at over 5.2 metres long and with a wheelbase exceeding 3.2 metres, it commands attention on the road. The front-end styling feels a little conservative, but the side profile and rear design better highlight its size and premium positioning.
Key exterior features include:
- 19-inch alloy wheels
- 55-litre frunk
- Powered sliding rear doors
- Powered tailgate
- 360-degree camera
- Panoramic glass roof
The Presidential Seat Experience
The second row is the M9’s biggest selling point. MG calls them Presidential Seats, and they live up to the name. The seats recline deeply and offer a long list of comfort features. There’s enough space to stretch out and relax on long journeys.

Highlights include:
- 16-way power-adjustable seats
- Heating, ventilation, and massage functions
- Dedicated touchscreen controller
- Powered footrest
- JBL sound system
- 220V power outlet
- Multiple charging ports
Large windows and the panoramic roof make the cabin feel airy. Even the third row is usable for adults, which is not always the case in large MPVs.
A Few Rough Edges
The rear entertainment screen looks more like an Android tablet than a fully integrated luxury system. Some functions are buried inside touchscreen menus, while the warning chimes can be unnecessarily loud. The absence of rear privacy curtains is another noticeable omission.
Comfortable on the Move
The M9 uses a 90kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of 450km. Real-world figures should be lower, but still respectable for a vehicle of this size.
The suspension is tuned well. It keeps body roll in check without compromising comfort. Rear-seat passengers remain well insulated from most road imperfections.

Verdict
The MG M9 knows exactly what it wants to be. It prioritises comfort, space, and luxury over outright driving engagement. The second-row experience is genuinely impressive, and that alone will attract many buyers. If priced sensibly, the M9 could become a serious alternative to established luxury MPVs in India.
