We tested the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, which serves as the entry point in Mercedes-Benz’s current convertible lineup.

This car replaces the earlier C-Class Cabriolet and carries forward several elements from it, while also bringing some design changes of its own.
First Impressions
The CLE is based on the C-Class platform, and that is visible in many areas. At the same time, Mercedes has made enough changes to give it a separate identity.
Convertibles have always been a niche choice. They are not just about performance, but also about style and the experience of driving with the roof down.
Design
The exterior design carries a mix of familiar and new elements.
- Digital headlights with signature light elements
- AMG Line styling with a more aggressive front
- Large grille with multiple Mercedes star patterns
- 20-inch multi-spoke wheels
From the side, the car follows a typical convertible shape with a long hood and short rear. It gets a fabric roof, which can be customised in different colours.

At the rear:
- Tail-light design feels closer to the GLC
- Black strip connecting both lights
- Subtle rear spoiler
- Dummy exhaust elements used as design features
Boot space is limited with the spare wheel in place, but improves if it is removed.
Interior
Inside, the CLE feels very similar to the C-Class.
- 12.3-inch display with adjustable angle
- Dashboard layout carried over from C-Class
- Mix of leather, carbon fibre, aluminium and piano black

Key features include:
- Airscarf, which blows warm air around the neck
- Air deflector system with rear screen and air barrier
- Sporty yet comfort-oriented seats
The adjustable screen helps improve visibility when sunlight hits it directly.
Space and Practicality
The car can seat four people.

- Four adults can sit comfortably
- Rear space is usable, though not very spacious
- Getting in and out can feel tight with the roof up
With the roof down, access becomes easier.
Driving Experience
Driving the CLE Cabriolet changes depending on how you use it.
- Best enjoyed with the roof down in the right weather
- Wind flow can be controlled using the air deflector system
- Roof operation takes around 20 seconds and works below 60 km/h
There are a few things to consider while driving with the roof down:
- Surroundings and attention from others
- Weather conditions like dust or heat
- Wind noise at higher speeds
With the roof closed, the cabin remains well insulated and has minimal outside noise.
Comfort and Usage
The car is more focused on comfort than performance.
- Smooth gearbox tuned for efficiency
- Suspension setup focused on comfort
- Enough performance for daily driving
It suits two types of users:
- Younger buyers who want a lifestyle car
- Older buyers looking for a relaxed driving experience
Conclusion
We tested the CLE Cabriolet over a few days, and it delivers a comfortable and relaxed convertible experience.
It focuses more on ease of use and comfort rather than outright performance, making it suitable for everyday driving as well as occasional open-top drives.
