Stellantis will develop and manufacture an upcoming global Jeep SUV in India using a platform supplied by Tata Motors. The company announced the project during its 2026 Investor Day and plans to launch the new SUV in 2028.
Stellantis will build the SUV in India and export it to more than 50 countries across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
Tata ARGOS Platform Expected to Form the Base
Although Stellantis has not officially revealed the architecture, industry sources indicate Tata Motors will underpin the SUV with its ARGOS platform, which also serves as the foundation for the new Tata Sierra. The platform supports:
- Petrol powertrains
- Hybrid systems
- Electric powertrains
- All-wheel drive
The AWD capability was reportedly a key factor in the decision, as Jeep requires at least one four-wheel-drive variant across its model lines.
Tata to Supply Engine Too
The agreement extends beyond the platform, with Tata also expected to supply its 1.5-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engine. The engine already powers the Sierra and has been developed to comply with Euro 7 and BS7 emissions standards, making it suitable for global markets.
Jeep will develop the SUV’s design, engineering, cabin, and overall character independently, while Tata Motors will supply the platform and powertrain.
Production Likely at Ranjangaon
The Tata-Stellantis joint venture will manufacture the new SUV at its Ranjangaon facility near Pune.
The facility currently manufactures multiple Jeep and Tata models and has produced more than 1.37 million vehicles since the partnership began.
