Volvo Trucks India Launches New FMX Edge Mining Dump Truck

Volvo Trucks India has launched the new Volvo FMX Edge for the Indian mining sector. The truck was unveiled at Volvo’s Hoskote facility in Bengaluru.

The event took place in the presence of mining customers and senior executives from:

  • Volvo Trucks
  • VE Commercial Vehicles
  • Volvo Construction Equipment

Built for Modern Mining Operations

The new FMX Edge is based on Volvo’s proven FMX platform. It already had more than 3,000 trucks operating in Indian mines over the last five years.

Volvo says the FMX Edge has been developed specifically for:

  • Higher productivity
  • Better safety
  • Improved efficiency
  • Long-term lifecycle value

In demanding mining operations.

Focus on Productivity and Capability

The truck gets:

  • 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity
  • 2.8-metre-wide body configuration

Volvo says the setup improves compatibility with:

  • Large excavators
  • High-volume overburden movement
  • The FMX Edge also features:
  • High power and torque output
  • Improved vehicle stability
  • Fuel-efficiency-focused systems
  • Advanced safety technology

Developed Around Customer Feedback

The Company says the truck was created using:

  • Customer insights
  • Real-world mining validation
  • Feedback from operators and maintenance teams

Volvo believes mining operations now require trucks that can deliver:

  • Predictable performance
  • Safer operations
  • Better uptime
  • Lower operating costs

Strong Volvo Mining Presence in India

The launch also highlighted Volvo’s long-standing presence in India’s mining industry through both Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment

The companies jointly demonstrated the FMX Edge during a customer experience session after the unveiling.

Final Take

Instead of chasing just payload figures, Volvo appears to be targeting overall operating efficiency, safety, and long-term productivity, areas that are becoming increasingly important for large-scale mining operations.
