BMW M2 M xDrive Set for India launch

BMW is set to expand its M2 lineup in India with the launch of the new M2 M xDrive. The all-wheel-drive version of BMW’s entry-level M car debuted globally in June and is expected to arrive in India soon, joining the existing rear-wheel-drive M2 and the track-focused M2 CS.

Rear-biased AWD, same 480hp straight-six

The biggest update is the addition of BMW’s rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Powertrain highlights:

  • 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine
  • 480hp
  • 600Nm
  • 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox
  • Rear-biased M xDrive AWD
  • Active M Differential

BMW has also introduced a new pre-chamber combustion system for its straight-six engines, claiming improved efficiency under high loads.

Quicker off the line

Thanks to the added traction, the M2 M xDrive is quicker than the standard rear-wheel-drive version.

Performance figures:

  • 0-100kmph in 3.7 seconds (0.3 seconds quicker)
  • 0-200kmph in 12.8 seconds
  • Top speed of 250kmph
  • Optional M Driver’s Package raises top speed to 285kmph

Drivers can also choose between 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD modes, with the latter sending all power to the rear wheels after disabling DSC.

Familiar design with one new colour

Visually, the M2 M xDrive remains identical to the standard coupe.

It continues with:

  • 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels
  • LED headlights and taillights
  • Wide-body coupe styling
  • Curved display with 14.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster

The only visual addition is the new Borusan Turkish Blue exterior paint option.

India launch

BMW has not announced an official launch date yet. The current M2 range is priced from Rs 1.06 crore (ex-showroom), and the M xDrive version is expected to command a premium over the rear-wheel-drive model.

Final take

The M2 has always been about keeping things simple, compact size, rear-wheel drive, and a playful chassis. The new M xDrive adds more grip and shaves a few tenths off the sprint to 100 km/h, but enthusiasts will still have one question: does more speed come at the cost of the M2’s raw, tail-happy character?
