Citroen Launches e-C3X With BaaS Model, Prices Start at ₹6.89 Lakh

Citroen India has introduced the e-C3X with a new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model, significantly reducing the upfront cost of its electric hatchback. With the BaaS scheme, the e-C3X can now be purchased at an effective starting price of ₹6.89 lakh, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the country.

The launch is aimed at lowering the entry barrier for buyers considering a switch to electric mobility, while also adding new features and ownership options.

Prices and Variants

Citroen is offering the e-C3X in three variants.

Citroën e-C3X pricing:

VariantEx-showroom PriceEffective PriceBaaS Price
eC3 Live₹11.99 lakh₹10.49 lakh₹6.89 lakh
eC3 Live (O)₹12.35 lakh₹10.85 lakh₹7.09 lakh
eC3 Shine₹13.26 lakh₹12.25 lakh₹8.30 lakh

Under the BaaS model, customers pay a separate battery subscription charge of ₹ 2.26 per kilometre.

What Is Battery-as-a-Service?

The BaaS model separates the battery cost from the vehicle purchase price.

Instead of paying for the battery up front, customers finance only the vehicle and pay for battery usage separately.

BaaS benefits include:

  • Lower upfront purchase cost
  • Reduced loan burden
  • Flexible ownership model
  • Easier EV adoption

Citroën also claims a running cost of just 19 paise per kilometre.

More Features Added

The e-C3X continues with its SUV-inspired styling and is available in six exterior colours.

Colour options:

  • Polar White
  • Steel Grey
  • Cosmo Blue
  • Perla Nera Black
  • Garnet Red
  • Deep Forest Green

Inside, the cabin receives several upgrades aimed at improving comfort and convenience.

Key features include:

  • 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless phone charger
  • Connected Car 2.0 technology
  • Dual-tone leatherette seats
  • Electrochromic IRVM
  • Optional JBL audio system
  • Front and rear dashcam package

Safety Gets A Boost

Citroen has equipped the e-C3X with a comprehensive safety package.

Safety features include:

  • Six airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • ISOFIX child-seat mounts
  • Speed-sensitive door locks
  • High-speed alert system

The optional Predictive Safety package also adds:

  • Lane Departure Warning

Final Take

The e-C3X’s new BaaS model tackles one of the biggest hurdles to EV adoption: high upfront costs. By separating the battery from the purchase price, Citroen has made its electric hatchback considerably more accessible. Whether buyers embrace the subscription-based battery model remains to be seen, but it certainly gives the e-C3X a unique edge in India’s increasingly competitive EV market.
