Tata Motors has launched the new Tata Altroz iCNG AMT in India at a starting price of ₹8.69 lakh (ex-showroom), and with this, the Altroz has become India’s first premium hatchback to offer a factory-fitted CNG kit with an automatic transmission.

A CNG Car Made Easier to Drive
The biggest highlight here is the addition of the AMT automatic gearbox to Tata’s existing CNG setup.
The idea is simple, buyers now get:
- Lower running costs of CNG
- Convenience of two-pedal driving
which should especially help in city traffic and daily commutes.
Engine and Performance
The Altroz iCNG AMT uses Tata’s 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG petrol engine, producing 73 hp and 103 Nm torque in CNG mode.
The engine now works with an automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for the first time.
Twin-Cylinder Setup Still Continues
One of the smartest features of the Altroz iCNG remains Tata’s twin-cylinder technology. Instead of one large cylinder, Tata uses two smaller cylinders placed under the boot floor. This helps preserve 210 litres of usable boot space, which is much better than many traditional CNG cars.
Features and Design
The Altroz iCNG AMT continues with the latest facelift updates.
Exterior highlights include:
- Flush door handles
- Connected LED tail lamps
- LED headlamps with DRLs
Inside, the hatchback gets:
- Dual digital displays
- Soft-touch dashboard
- Ambient lighting
- Lounge-style rear seats
Safety Features
The Altroz continues to carry a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.
Safety kit includes:
- Six airbags
- ESP
- ISOFIX mounts
- Reverse parking sensors
Higher variants also get:
- 360-degree camera
- TPMS
- Auto headlamps
- LED fog lamps
Prices
The Altroz iCNG AMT range starts from ₹8.69 lakh and goes up to ₹10.76 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant.
Conclusion
The Tata Altroz iCNG AMT may not be the most exciting car on paper, but it solves a very real problem for Indian buyers, giving them low running costs without the hassle of constantly using a clutch in traffic.
