Maruti Suzuki has launched the Wagon R Bioflex in India at ₹7.24 lakh (ex-showroom), marking another step in the company’s push towards alternative fuel technologies. Based on the top-spec Wagon R ZXi+ manual, the flex-fuel hatchback can run on petrol blended with up to 85 per cent ethanol (E85).

Unveiled in production-ready form earlier this month, the Wagon R Bioflex is currently being offered exclusively to commercial customers.
Costs ₹86,000 More Than Standard Model
The Wagon R Bioflex commands a premium of Rs 86,000 over the regular Wagon R ZXi+ MT on which it is based.
Wagon R Bioflex pricing:
- Wagon R Bioflex: ₹7.24 lakh
- Wagon R ZXi+ MT: ₹6.38 lakh
- Price difference: ₹86,000
Maruti has also confirmed that the Bioflex version is available only with a manual gearbox.
E85 Compatible 1.2-Litre Engine
Power comes from Maruti Suzuki’s familiar 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
To support higher ethanol content, Maruti has made several modifications to the powertrain.
Key changes include:
- Upgraded fuel injectors
- Revised fuel pump
- New fuel lines
- Recalibrated ECU
- Ethanol sensor
While official power and torque figures have not been revealed, the standard Wagon R ZXi+ produces 91hp and 114 Nm.
Minimal design Changes
Visually, the Bioflex version remains almost identical to the standard Wagon R.
The only noticeable differences are a few model-specific identifiers on the exterior.
Bioflex-specific elements:
- “Flex Fuel” decals on the sides
- “Bioflex” badge on the tailgate
The interior remains unchanged and continues to feature the familiar black-and-beige cabin layout.

Features Remain Largely Unchanged
Since it is based on the top-spec ZXi+ trim, the Wagon R Bioflex retains most of the standard car’s equipment list.
Key features include:
- 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
- Rear parking sensors
- Front fog lamps
- Rear AC vents
Maruti is yet to reveal the Wagon R Bioflex’s official fuel-efficiency figures. However, ethanol-blended fuels typically return lower mileage than conventional petrol, although they can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support India’s ethanol-blending goals.
For now, the Wagon R Bioflex will primarily target commercial operators looking to explore alternative fuel options without switching to CNG or electric vehicles.
