MINI Countryman C Review: The Most Sensible MINI Yet?

The MINI Countryman C has always been the practical side of the MINI family. But with local production now underway in India, the latest Countryman feels more relevant than ever. At ₹47.5 lakh (introductory), it also becomes one of the most accessible premium SUVs in its segment.

Bigger, Bolder, and More SUV-Like

The new Countryman C has grown in size and finally looks like a proper SUV.

MINI has retained its quirky identity while adding a stronger road presence. The new copper accents, sharper headlamps, larger proportions, and bold wheel arches give it a more mature look.

Exterior highlights:

  • New copper-finished design elements
  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Flush door handles
  • Redesigned LED lighting
  • Larger dimensions than before
  • 505-litre boot space

Despite the growth spurt, it still looks unmistakably MINI.

A Cabin Full of Character

Step inside, and the Countryman immediately feels different from anything else in this segment.

The standout feature is the large circular OLED touchscreen, which remains true to MINI’s design philosophy. The fabric-like dashboard trim also gives the cabin a unique character.

Key features include:

  • Circular OLED touchscreen
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Head-up display
  • Harman Kardon sound system
  • Wireless charging
  • Multiple drive modes
  • Voice controls

The cabin feels airy, premium, and surprisingly spacious. Rear seat comfort is another strong point, with generous legroom and headroom for adults.

How Does It Drive?

Power comes from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 156hp and 240Nm, paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

On paper, the numbers may not sound exciting. On the road, however, the Countryman feels eager and responsive.

The throttle response is sharp, especially in sportier drive modes, while the steering remains light in the city and gains weight as speeds rise.

More importantly, MINI has tuned this SUV for comfort.

The suspension absorbs bad roads well, cabin refinement is impressive, and long-distance driving feels effortless. Unlike the JCW version, this is clearly aimed at families rather than enthusiasts.

What We Liked

  • Distinctive MINI design
  • Spacious cabin and rear seat
  • Premium interior quality
  • Comfortable ride quality
  • Strong value proposition at launch price
  • Practical family-friendly nature

Verdict

The new Countryman may not be the most exciting MINI on sale, but it could be the smartest one.

It combines MINI’s unique personality with genuine practicality, a comfortable ride, and premium features. Local production has also helped make it significantly more attractive from a value perspective.

If you’re looking for a premium family SUV that stands out from the usual German crowd, the Countryman deserves a serious look. It delivers the charm of a MINI without sacrificing everyday usability.
