New Fourth-Gen Hyundai i20 Leaked ahead of Global Debut

The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 has leaked in full ahead of its official unveiling at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Hyundai serves as an official partner.

The new hatchback adopts a more crossover-inspired design, moves away from traditional i20 styling, and introduces a significantly updated cabin with connected displays.

SUV-Inspired Design Grabs Attention

Hyundai has given the new i20 a much more upright and rugged appearance.

Key exterior highlights include:

  • Connected LED light bars at the front and rear
  • Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps
  • Chunkier front and rear bumpers
  • Prominent wheel-arch cladding
  • New dual-tone alloy wheels
  • More upright bonnet and tailgate design

Unlike the sharper, more sculpted third-generation model, the new i20 uses cleaner body surfaces and a more crossover-like stance.

The hatchback also retains conventional pull-type door handles, avoiding the increasingly common flush-fitting units.

Familiar Yet More Premium Cabin

Inside, Hyundai has borrowed heavily from its latest global models.

Features expected include:

  • Twin connected 12.3-inch displays
  • New three-spoke steering wheel
  • Vertically oriented centre console
  • Physical buttons and rotary controls
  • Dual-tone beige and grey interior theme
  • Soft-touch materials on door panels

The dashboard layout closely resembles newer Hyundai and Kia products while maintaining user-friendly physical controls.

Engines Likely to Continue

Hyundai has not revealed technical specifications yet.

However, the new i20 is expected to continue with:

  • 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (83hp)
  • 1.0-litre turbo-petrol TGDi (120hp)

The leaked car carries a TGDi badge, confirming the turbo-petrol engine will remain part of the lineup.

Hyundai is also reportedly developing a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with hybrid compatibility, which could eventually make its way into the i20 range.

India Launch Still Uncertain

There is currently no confirmation on an Indian launch. With hatchback demand continuing to decline, Hyundai may choose to prioritise SUVs and crossovers instead.

The company is already developing a new Bayon-based crossover for India, which is expected to debut later this year.

If it reaches Indian shores, the new i20 will arrive with a radically different design philosophy and a stronger focus on technology than any of its predecessors.
