The curtain is finally coming down on one of motorcycling’s greatest supersports. Yamaha has confirmed that production of the iconic YZF-R6 will end soon, with the final order window closing on August 31, 2026.
First introduced in 1999, the Yamaha R6 became a benchmark in the 600cc supersport segment, earning a reputation for its razor-sharp handling, screaming inline-four engine and track-focused performance.
Although the road-going R6 was discontinued in 2021 due to stricter Euro 5 emission norms, Yamaha continued producing it as a track-only Race Base Model. That chapter is now coming to an end.
Yamaha Japan has announced two reservation windows for the final batch:
Deliveries of the last motorcycles will begin in February 2027. After that, no new R6s will be produced.
The R6 Race Base Model retains the same 599cc inline-four engine that made the original famous but ditches all road-legal equipment, including lights and number plates.

The Yamaha R6 was never officially sold in India. That leaves the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R as the only Japanese 600cc supersport currently available in the country, priced at ₹12.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
