TVS To Build Norton Atlas 585cc Adventure Bike in India, Launch Expected Later This Year

TVS Motor Company is preparing to launch the all-new Norton Atlas later this year, with production set to take place in India at the company’s Hosur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

The motorcycle will mark one of the first mainstream Norton models to be fully manufactured in India after TVS acquired Norton Motorcycles.

Two Versions Expected

TVS is expected to introduce:

  • Standard Norton Atlas
  • Norton Atlas GT

The Atlas is positioned as a premium adventure-touring motorcycle and will get aggressive styling with:

  • Twin projector LED headlamps
  • Large windscreen
  • Chunky fuel tank extensions
  • Hand guards
  • Bash plate
  • Upswept exhaust

The bike also features:

  • Cornering lights
  • Puddle lamps
  • TFT touchscreen display

Engine Dynamics

Powering the Atlas will be a new 585cc parallel-twin engine featuring a 270-degree crank setup.

The motorcycle uses a steel trellis frame architecture with the engine acting as a stressed member for improved rigidity and handling.

Loaded with Electronics

The Norton Atlas will come with a long list of rider aids, including:

  • Multiple ride modes
  • Cornering ABS
  • Traction control
  • Slide control
  • Wheelie control
  • Launch control
  • Hill hold assist
  • Cornering cruise control
  • Quickshifter

TVS will also equip the bike with a 6-axis IMU electronics package.

Expected Price in India

TVS could price the Norton Atlas between ₹ 6 lakh and ₹ 6.5 lakh, making it a direct rival to several premium middleweight adventure motorcycles in India. Main rivals may include Honda NX500 E and Kawasaki Versys 650.

Final Take

The Norton Atlas could become one of the most important premium motorcycles for TVS in recent years. With Norton’s heritage, a new twin-cylinder engine, and India-based production, the Atlas has the potential to give TVS a much stronger presence in the growing middleweight ADV segment.
