Kimi Antonelli’s Monaco Win Created Waves Over the Paddock

Kimi Antonelli’s stunning victory at the Monaco Grand Prix has further cemented his position as the driver to beat in the 2026 Formula 1 season. The 19-year-old Mercedes star delivered a faultless weekend, converting a sensational pole position into his fifth win from the opening six races.

Key highlights

  • Youngest winner in Monaco Grand Prix history
  • Fifth victory in the first six races of 2026
  • Beat Max Verstappen to pole by 0.04 seconds
  • Extended championship lead to 66 points
  • Mercedes continues to lead the new-era pecking order

Monaco Pole That Left Merc Stunned

The streets of Monaco have always rewarded precision, commitment and confidence, and Antonelli showcased all three during qualifying.

The Italian produced a stunning final lap to snatch pole position from Max Verstappen, with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff later describing the onboard footage as “unbelievable”. Even the Mercedes pit wall believed the lap wasn’t enough until Antonelli found crucial time in the final corners.

Calm Under Pressure

Pole position is often half the battle around Monaco, but Antonelli still had to convert it into victory.

The teenager controlled the race from the front, handling multiple restarts and pressure from behind without making a mistake. Whether it was tyre management, race pace or restart execution, Antonelli looked remarkably composed throughout the weekend.

Five Wins from Six Races

Monaco marked Antonelli’s fifth victory from the first six races of the season.

His championship advantage now stands at:

  • Kimi Antonelli: Championship leader
  • Lewis Hamilton: 66 points behind
  • George Russell: 68 points behind

With 16 race weekends remaining, the title fight is far from over. However, Antonelli’s consistency and speed have made him the benchmark driver of the 2026 campaign so far.

Final Take

Monaco wasn’t simply another race win for Kimi Antonelli. It was the type of performance that forces the rest of the grid to take notice. Against world champions such as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, the Mercedes driver looked completely at ease, delivering a level of control and maturity far beyond his years.

Six races into the season, the question is no longer whether Antonelli is a future star. It’s whether anyone can stop him in 2026.
